Bicycle Insurance - Questions and Answers
Do I need insurance if I go cycling?

Most people who engage in any type of cycling as a public sport are insured if they have accident insurance during leisure time that comes with Home Protection 2, 3 and 4. Elite athletes should consider their protection carefully and insure themselves specially with General Accident Insurance and request a special endorsement stating that the insurance covers accidents that occur during a competition or in preparation for a competition. 

Accident insurance during leisure time that comes with Home Protection 2, 3 and 4 is valid anywhere in the world, so cyclists are covered abroad. 

Do I need insurance if I go mountain cycling?

Accident insurance during leisure time that comes with Home Protection 2, 3 and 4 applies when cycling in the mountains, although not in mountain bike competitions. 

Do I need insurance if I participate in a bicycle race?

Accident insurance during leisure time, which comes with Home Protection, applies to those who are competing or training for a competition in the case of street races where the public is given the opportunity to participate without any minimum skill or ability requirements. Elite athletes should consider their protection carefully and insure themselves specially. 

Do I need insurance if I go cycling abroad?

Accident insurance during leisure time that comes with Home Protection 2, 3 and 4 is valid anywhere in the world, so cyclists are covered abroad. 

If my bicycle is stolen, will I get compensated?

If a bicycle is stolen from a locked apartment or vehicle, compensation is paid from the household contents insurance that comes with Home Protection. The maximum compensation is 1-2% of the insured amount of the contents, depending on which category the Home Protection is in, 1, 2, 3 or 4. We always recommend insuring more expensive bicycles specially with Bicycle Insurance, which also includes more extensive theft insurance. 

Bicycle Insurance covers theft of a locked bicycle stored in a locked storage room or other premises and if it is stored outdoors. Theft of a bicycle abroad is covered by luggage insurance, which is part of Home Protection 2, 3 and 4. 

Am I insured if I cause damage to others while cycling?

The personal liability insurance that comes with Home Protection 2, 3 and 4 applies to damage you cause to others in a tortious manner, with certain limitations. Bicycle insurance also includes liability insurance, which covers damage you cause to others. 

When do I need to insure my bicycle separately?

All bicycles are insured by Home Protection up to a certain amount. Bicycles and equipment can be worth a lot of money, so it is important to familiarise yourself with the maximum compensation amount in the Home Protection policy you have. The more valuable the bicycle is, the more important it is to insure it specifically with Bicycle Insurance. 

Am I insured if my bicycle is damaged?

The Bicycle Insurance compensates loss or damage to a bicycle due to sudden and unforeseeable mishaps during transportation, use, or storage during the insurance period. Loss or damage to a bicycle may also be covered by household contents insurance or comprehensive household contents insurance, which are part of Home Protection 1, 2, 3 and 4. The maximum compensation amount is in Home Protection, so individuals need to insure expensive bicycles separately with Bicycle Insurance.

What is critical illness insurance?

Critical illness insurance provides you and your family with financial protection in the event of a serious illness covered by the policy.

Who needs critical illness insurance?

Critical illness insurance is necessary for most people, regardless of family circumstances, as serious illnesses can occur unexpectedly.

How does critical illness insurance work?

Critical illness insurance pays you a benefit if you are diagnosed with a specified illness. It allows you to reorganize your life and focus on recovering your health without worrying about your household finances. The illnesses covered are listed in the information document and in the insurance terms and conditions.

Who can take out critical illness insurance?

Individuals aged 18–59 may apply for critical illness insurance, which remains valid until the age of 70.

Where is critical illness insurance valid?

Critical illness insurance is valid worldwide.

How much does critical illness insurance cost?

The premium is based on the insured amount and the age of the insured. The assessment also considers your circumstances, such as family size, financial obligations, and how long you continue to receive salary income during illness. Various health- and lifestyle-related factors may also affect the premium.

How much is the compensation?

You decide the compensation amount of the critical illness insurance. It should reflect your income, debts, and family circumstances. Ideally, the insurance should cover the equivalent of 2–3 years of net salary in addition to employees’ contractual sick pay rights. You may increase the insured amount if you have a child, adopt a child, or purchase residential property, without submitting new health information.

How is compensation paid?

Critical illness insurance compensation is paid as a lump sum and are exempt from income tax. Only one payment is made per benefit category.

Which illnesses are covered by critical illness insurance?

The illnesses covered are divided into five benefit categories:

  • Stroke, paralysis, and aphasia

  • Cancer

  • Neurological and degenerative diseases

  • Cardiovascular diseases

  • Other serious illnesses

When is compensation paid?

Compensation is paid approximately two weeks after all necessary and satisfactory documentation has been received by the insurance company.

What is premium waiver?

Premium waiver is optional additional protection within the critical illness insurance that can be selected when applying.

This means that if you become unable to work by 50% or more, you may apply to have your insurance premiums reduced or waived. The waiver of premiums can last for a maximum of five years and is proportional to the degree of incapacity of work.

Frequently Asked Questions – Ski Trips
If I have Home Protection, am I covered by accident insurance during leisure time?
  • Accident insurance during leisure time is included in Home Protection 2, 3 and 4. The coverage applies to ski trips both in Iceland and abroad.

  • Accident insurance during leisure time provides compensation for accidents that occur in your free time, including dental injuries, disability and daily allowance payments.

  • Coverage limits and conditions may vary between levels of Home Protection. We recommend checking the Home Protection comparison to see what applies to your policy.

Is Liability insurance included in Home Protection?
  • Yes, all our Home Protection plans include Liability insurance.

  • Liability insurance can be especially useful when skiing abroad, as it covers damage you may accidentally cause to others.

  • In some countries, travellers are required to show proof of liability insurance at ski resorts. For example in Italy, this is mandatory.

Are travel insurance options included in Home Protection?
  • Home Protection 2, 3 and 4 offer several optional travel insurance add‑ons, including Baggage insurance, Cancellation insurance and Interruption insurance.

Do I have travel insurance through my credit card?
  • Vörður provides travel insurance for credit card holders of Arion Bank and Landsbankinn. It’s important to review which insurance benefits are included with your card before you start your trip.

What travel insurance is included with my credit card?
  • It depends on which credit card you have and which bank issued it. We recommend reviewing each card individually on our website.

  • Travel insurance benefits that can be included with credit cards can for example cover medical expenses, trip reimbursement, and baggage insurance.

Should I have travel insurance through both my Home Protection and my credit card?
  • The Travel insurance included in Home Protection and the Travel insurance that comes with credit cards differ in scope and may be subject to different terms and conditions. It can therefore be useful to review what each product covers.

  • In some cases, it may be beneficial to have Travel insurance through both your Home Protection and your credit card—especially in the event of extensive damage or loss, as the insurances may cover different aspects of the claim.

  • We recommend reviewing the terms of both insurances to see what best suits your travel plans.

Is my ski equipment insured?
  • Ski equipment is considered part of your household belongings and is therefore covered as baggage in your Travel insurance — both under Home Protection and through your credit card’s Travel insurance, just like any other luggage you take with you on your trip.

  • If you have very high‑value ski equipment, it’s best to get in touch with us so we can review your coverage together.

Home Protection 1 Questions and Answers
Who is Home protection 1 for?

Home Protection 1 is a simple and secure home contents and liability insurance in one package. It is well suited for individuals who are just starting out, are childless and do not need accident or travel insurance. It covers damage to household contents and other personal belongings. Home Protection 1 also includes liability insurance. 

Who is insured?

The insurance covers the policyholder, their spouse/cohabiting partner and unmarried children. These individuals must have a shared legal residence in Iceland, live at the same address, and maintain a joint household. 

What is considered household contents?

Household items are items that are part of a general household and are not considered part of the property or its general accessories. Items that you would normally take with you when moving are considered household items. However, we recommend that expensive items, such as works of art, jewelry, expensive bicycles, special hobby equipment and other items that require special inspection and may even require separate insurance. Compensation for damage to such items is subject to rules on maximum compensation, which means that the compensation may be lower than the actual value of the items. 

Am I insured when traveling abroad?

There is no travel insurance included in Home Protection 1, but you can add such insurance to Home Protection 2, 3 and 4. You may also have travel insurance through your credit card. 

If I'm renting an apartment, do I need this insurance?

The property owner is responsible for insuring the property itself, but you need to take care of insuring yourself and your household contents. It is therefore sensible for everyone to have Home Protection, including those who rent.

Who is Home Protection 2 for?

Home Protection 2 is a basic insurance package for families and is well suited for individuals and families who are starting to live together or downsizing. It covers damage to household contents and other personal belongings, as well as accidents involving family members during their free time, while performing household tasks, or while studying. The package also includes liability insurance, and optional travel and cancellation insurance for those who want additional coverage. 

Who is insured?

The insurance covers the policyholder, their spouse/cohabiting partner and unmarried children. These individuals must have a shared legal residence in Iceland, live at the same address, and maintain a joint household. 

What is considered household contents?

Who is Home Protection 3 for?

Home Protection 3 is the most common family protection offered by Vörður and is well suited to families, small or large. The insurance provides extensive and comprehensive protection and includes all the main insurances necessary for a home and family. 

Who is insured?

The insurance covers the policyholder, their spouse/cohabiting partner and unmarried children. These individuals must have a shared legal residence in Iceland, live at the same address, and maintain a joint household. 

Is all of my household contents insured, or do I need to insure high-value items separately?

We recommend that high-value items—such as artwork, collectibles, expensive bicycles, and other valuable leisure equipment—be insured separately. Compensation for such items is subject to maximum benefit limits, which may result in payouts that are lower than the actual value of the items.

Homeowner Insurance - Questions and Answers
Who is homeowner insurance for?

Homeowner insurance is for all property owners. 

What does the homeowner insurance cover?

Homeowner insurance provides extensive and comprehensive protection for the property and compensates for damage, e.g. due to water, fog, burglary, cloudbursts, or thawing. A detailed list of what is covered and what is not covered can be found in the insurance's information document

Is it possible that my housing association has this insurance?

Yes, it is possible that your housing association has a homeowner insurance. We encourage you to look into it at your earliest convenience. 

What do I need to do if I sell my property and buy a new one?

When you sell a property, the principle is that your homeowner insurance lapses at the same time as your fire insurance. Homeowner insurance never automatically transfers between properties when moving. It is therefore important to contact us when you have bought a new property and get an offer for homeowner insurance, if there is no insurance in place with the housing association. 

If I'm in the rental market, do I need this insurance?

No, the tenant does not need to have this insurance. Only the owner of the property. 

Life Insurance - Questions and Answers
What is life insurance?

Life insurance is financial protection for the dependants of those who hold such insurance.

How does life insurance work? 

If you have life insurance and pass away due to illness or an accident, your dependants, or those you choose, will receive compensation.

Who needs life insurance?

Those who have others depending on them or who have taken on financial obligations for which others would be responsible should consider life insurance. Financial obligations include, for example, a mortgage, car loan, bond loans, overdrafts, or other debts.

Who receives the benefits?

You decide who receives the benefits from your life insurance. If you do not name a specific beneficiary, the benefit amount is paid to your spouse, if applicable. If you leave no spouse, the benefit is paid to your legal heirs in accordance with the law or a will. You may also designate individuals you wish to be entitled to the benefits, such as a cohabiting partner.

The options are as follows:

  • Legal heirs: Your married spouse receives 1/3 of the amount and your children receive 2/3 of the amount.

  • No designated beneficiary: Your married spouse receives the full amount. If you are not married, the full amount is paid to your children. If there is no spouse or children, the amount is paid to your parents.

  • Named beneficiary: You choose who receives the benefits. If you have a partner but are not married, this option must be used if your partner is to receive the payout.

How is compensation paid?

Life insurance compensation is paid as a lump sum to the beneficiary and are exempt from income tax.

How much does life insurance cost?

The price of life insurance is calculated according to the premium rate schedule and depends on the insured amount and the age of the policyholder. The price is independent of gender and increases in line with the consumer price index and as the policyholder ages.

How much is the compensation?

When applying for life insurance, you choose the compensation amount. It should reflect your income, level of debt, and family circumstances. You should regularly review the insured amount when your circumstances or family situation change.

Where is life insurance valid?

Motor Vehicles - Questions and Answers
What is vehicle insurance?
  • Vehicle insurance consists of liability insurance and accident insurance for the driver and the owner. Liability insurance compensates for personal injury and property damage caused by the vehicle. Accident insurance compensates for injuries suffered by the driver in an accident they cause, as well as injuries to the vehicle owner if they are injured as a passenger in their own vehicle.

What is comprehensive (kaskó) insurance?
  • Comprehensive insurance covers damage to a vehicle if damage occurs for which the owner is personally responsible or if the vehicle suffers external damage. The policyholder chooses the deductible and pays it if the car is damaged, while the insurance company pays the remaining amount.

What is windshield insurance?
  • Windshield insurance covers breakage of a car window, including installation costs. The deductible for windshield insurance is 25% per claim, but if the windshield is repaired rather than replaced, there is no deductible.

Where is vehicle insurance valid?
  • The insurance is valid in Iceland, other EEA member states, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. A condition is that an international motor insurance card, known as the “Green Card,” is obtained.

What is a registration-required vehicle?
  • A registration-required vehicle is a motor vehicle, motorcycle, off-road vehicle, tractor, trailer for a motor vehicle or tractor designed for a gross weight of more than 750 kg, a caravan, or a camping trailer. Vehicles must be registered before being put into use.

What if the vehicle is deregistered or the license plates are surrendered?
  • You notify us when a vehicle has been deregistered, and the insurance is then cancelled from the date of deregistration. This applies to mandatory vehicle insurance as well as voluntary insurance such as comprehensive insurance.

  • If license plates are surrendered without deregistration, comprehensive insurance is not automatically cancelled, as the insurance covers various types of losses that may occur even when plates are surrendered, such as vandalism, severe weather, and theft.

What if I participate in a driving competition?
  • Liability insurance does not apply unless a racing endorsement is purchased. However, this endorsement does not cover damage the vehicle causes to other participants in a driving competition, whether bodily injury or property damage.

  • Accident insurance for the driver and owner, windshield insurance, and comprehensive insurance never apply during driving competitions.

Property Fire Insurance - Questions and Answers
Who is Property Fire Insurance for?

Fire insurance is a mandatory insurance for everyone who owns a property. 

What Does The Property Fire Insurance Cover?

The property specified in the certificate and its customary fixtures that is covered by the property's fire insurance valuation. This can include, for example, permanent fixtures and stove. A detailed list of what is covered and what is not covered can be found in the insurance's information document

What Do I Need to Do if I Sell My Property and Buy a New One?

When you buy a property from a real estate agent, they send a notification to the Property Register and then the fire insurance is transferred to the buyer without them having to do anything in particular. If the sale does not go through a real estate agent, the owner must complete the request for insurance. 

If I'm in The Rental Market, Do I Need This Insurance?

No, the tenant does not need to have this insurance. Only the owner of the property. 

Can I Raise/Lower the Fire Insurance Valuation?

Yes, you can have your property assessed or re-assessed and then contact Registers Iceland

Why Do I Need Additional Fire Insurance?

If the property is considered to be worth more than the fire insurance valuation indicates, additional fire insurance may be a good option. Additional fire insurance increases the value of the fire insurance valuation beyond what Registers Iceland has published.

What does Children’s Insurance 2 cost?

The annual premium for Children’s Insurance 2 is ISK 13,200, or ISK 1,100 per month.

Questions and answers - Disability Insurance
How much does Disability Insurance cost?
  • The annual premium is equivalent to the first two contributions an individual makes to their private pension fund.

    • For example, an individual who pays ISK 31,975 per month into their private pension fund will therefore pay ISK 63,951 as the annual premium for the Disability Insurance.

  • The annual premium remains unchanged for the duration of the policy.

How is the insured amount determined?
  • The insured amount is determined by the agreed annual premium, job title, and age. Since the annual premium remains unchanged upon renewal, the insured amount decreases with increasing age in accordance with the premium table.

How is the premium paid?

The annual premium agreed at the outset is deducted directly from the balance of the private pension fund. A monthly verification is made with the private pension fund to pay premiums for this insurance.

If there are insufficient funds in the individual’s private pension fund on the first attempt, another attempt is made in the next verification, and this continues until the premium can be deducted from the fund balance, up to a maximum of 10 months later.

How is compensation paid?
  • If a disability assessment is made, the compensation amount is paid directly into the individual’s private pension fund and is paid out in accordance with applicable laws on the payout of pension savings.

Why is it important to regularly assess the value of your home?

As time goes by, it is natural that you family will need to add various items, such as clothing, furniture, and electronic devices. As the number of belongings increases, we become less aware of their total value – until something happens. Therefore, we recommend that you regularly review your belongings and the valuables in your home. 

How can I keep a record of the valuables of my home?

Here are some helpful tips 

  • Take photos or video of the items you care about and are valuable. We recommend going through each room and leaving the storage room for last. 

  • Make a list of all the items in the first section here and estimate the value of each item in ISK, for example by looking at what a comparable item costs today. 

  • Take good care of valuable items such as jewellery, paintings, etc. You may want to insure them separately. 

  • Collect all invoices and receipts related to expensive items – it helps to have the invoices in case the items are damaged. We also recommend taking photos of the invoices because they often fade over time.

Who receives the life insurance compensation?

You decide who receives the compensation from your life insurance. If you do not name a specific recipient, the benefit amount is paid to your spouse, if applicable. If you leave no spouse, the compensation amount is paid to your legal heirs in accordance with the law or a will. You may also designate individuals you wish to be entitled to receive the benefits, such as a cohabiting partner.

The options are as follows:

  • Legal heirs: Your married spouse receives 1/3 of the amount and your children receive 2/3 of the amount.

  • No designated recipient: Your married spouse receives the full amount. If you are not married, the full amount is paid to your children. If there is no spouse or children, the amount is paid to your parents.

Why a windshield sticker?

The windshield sticker prevents a crack in the windshield from spreading, increasing the likelihood that the glass can be repaired. This avoids having to replace the windshield with a new one, along with the associated carbon footprint.

Why repair the windshield?

If repairing the windshield is possible, Vörður covers the full cost of the repair. This means no deductible and no out-of-pocket expense for you.

How do I use the windshield sticker?

If the damage is smaller than a 100 ISK coin and not in the driver’s line of sight, there is a good chance the windshield can be repaired. Wipe the damaged area clean and then apply the sticker to stop the crack and protect it from dirt and moisture. Then go as soon as possible to the nearest authorized windshield repair shop.

What is the deductible if the windshield needs to be replaced?

If repair is not possible and the windshield must be replaced, the deductible under windshield insurance is 25% per claim.

Does it take longer to repair the windshield?

Repairing the windshield is much quicker than installing a new one, which means less waiting time for you.

What do I do if my animal is injured or gets ill?
  • If your animal is seriously ill or badly injured, contact a veterinarian for instructions on the next steps. You can access information about the veterinary hotline on the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority’s website.  

  • It is best to report illnesses or accidents to animals as soon as possible. You can report loss or damage by clicking here

What documentation will I need to submit?
  • A copy of the certificate and bills from a veterinarian must be submitted. This is done so that it is possible to take a position on the damage and calculate compensation if compensation is due.  

  • The animal's name and number must appear on the invoice, which must be clear and easy to read.  

  • Veterinarians can submit electronic certificates through the Vörður’s website. 

How does the deductible work?
  • In pet insurance, the deductible is 10% of medical expenses, the minimum amount is stated on the insurance certificate.  

  • Deductible in pet damage is valid for up to 60 days for the same illness/accident, after which it renews.  

  • In horse insurance, the deductible is 10% of medical expenses, the minimum amount is stated on the insurance certificate. 

What happens if a pet is lost?
  • If a life-insured pet is lost or stolen, it must be reported to Vörður. If the pet is not found within 60 days of notification, it is possible to apply to have the life insurance paid out – provided that a reasonable search has been carried out and public notices have been published. 

  • Remember to submit information about the disappearance of the pet and how the search was carried out. 

  • Maximum compensation according to this item is 75% of the insurance amount. 

What happens if a horse is lost?
  • If a life-insured horse is lost or stolen, it must be reported to Vörður. If the horse is not found within 120 days of notification, it is possible to apply to have the life insurance paid out – provided that a reasonable search has been carried out and public notices have been published.  

  • Remember to submit information about the disappearance of the horse and how the search was carried out.  

  • Maximum compensation according to this item is 75% of the insurance amount. 

What do I do if livestock is hit by a car?
  • In the event of a violent collision, or if there are accidents involving people, the police should be called.  

  • It is best to report the damage as soon as possible. It is important that the following information is provided: 

    • Vehicle license plate number (if known). 

    • Driver's ID number (if available). 

    • Location of the accident. 

    • Livestock’s owner’s ID No. 

    • The number of the animal(s). 

What if my animal becomes chronically ill?
  • The following costs are covered by insurance if your animal becomes chronically ill and/or needs to be on a special diet for life: 

    • Medical expenses, for example due to examination and treatment of diseases covered by the insurance.

What if I can't get to the vet during normal opening hours?

  • The insurance only pays for dental repairs if they are a direct result of an accident.

Can I get a rental car during the repair?
  • If you have Grunnur, you are entitled to a class A rental car for up to five days while repairs are being carried out. If you prefer to be paid for loss of use (ISK 5,000 per day), send an email to the email address [email protected] after repair. Then the number of days the car was in the workshop is known and the amount is calculated based on that. 

  • Customers of Premía in Arion Bank are entitled to a rental car in the same size category as their own vehicle, for up to five days while repairs are being carried out.

Who is summer cottage insurance for?

Summer cottage insurance is comprehensive insurance for all owners of summer cottages. 

What does the summer cottage insurance cover?

Cottage insurance is composed of two insurances: homeowner insurance and household contents insurance. A detailed list of what is covered and what is not covered can be found in the insurance's information document

What is defined as a household contents?

Household contents are personal belongings that generally come with summer cottages and are not considered part of the property or its general fixtures. Think of household contents as everything that you would take with you between summer cottages. 

What do I need to do if I sell my summer cottage and buy a new one?

When you sell a property, the principle is that your summer cottage insurance lapses at the same time as your fire insurance. Homeowner insurance never automatically transfers between properties when moving. The household contents insurance must be cancelled separately. 

Hot tub and patio, is that covered by the insurance?

A hot tub is not covered by the homeowner insurance and must be insured separately. The patio and other similar valuables outside the exterior walls of the property are not considered property, unless those values are specified in the property's fire insurance valuation. 

How much does a summer cottage insurance cost?

That varies.   • Þau sem eru með kaskótryggingu eiga rétt á bílaleigubíl í minnsta bílaflokki í allt að sjö daga án endurgjalds. Ef þú þarft bílaleigubíl lengur en það tryggir viðskiptasamband þitt við Verna þér afslátt hjá Bílaleigu Akureyrar (Höldur).

  • Þú getur óskað eftir bílaleigubíl hjá verkstæðinu sem gerir við bílinn. Það er líka hægt að hafa samband við Bílaleigu Akureyrar (Höldur) og þeir geta útvegað þér bíl. Í þeim tilfellum verður þú að sækja hann hjá bílaleigunni og skila til baka á sama stað.

Ábyrgðartjón

  • Ef þú átt bótaskylt ábyrgðartjón hjá Verna átt þú rétt bílaleigubíl í minnsta bílaflokki í allt að 14 daga eða það sem telst eðlilegur vinnslutími mála.

  • Þú getur óskað eftir bílaleigubíl hjá verkstæðinu sem gerir við bílinn. Það er líka hægt að hafa samband við Bílaleigu Akureyrar (Höldur) og þeir geta útvegað þér bíl. Í þeim tilfellum verður þú að sækja hann hjá bílaleigunni og skila til baka á sama stað.

Hvernig virka samkomulagsbætur?
  • Ef þú vilt fá greiddar samkomulagsbætur læturðu meta tjónið á viðurkenndu verkstæði og tekur fram að þú óskir eftir bótum í stað viðgerðar. Þetta er gert svo varahlutir séu ekki pantaðir.

Hversu há er eigin áhætta?
  • Eigin áhætta í ábyrgðatjónum sem fara yfir 180 þúsund er 29.000 kr.

  • Í kaskótjónum er eigin áhætta 139 þúsund.

  • Í rúðutjónum þá er eigin áhætta 20%, en ef hægt er að gera við rúðuna þá er engin eigin áhætta.

Hvað get ég gert ef ég er ósammála niðurstöðu í tjónum?
  • Málið er sent fyrst fyrir tjónanefnd, sem er nefnd á vegum SFF. þar sem fullrúar tryggingafélag sitja. Nefndin tekur einungis á málum sem tengjast ákvörðun á bótaskyldu úr lögboðnu tryggingunum, ekki kaskó.

  • Verna sér um að vísa málinu til Tjónanefndar, óskir þú eftir því, og tilkynnir þér niðurstöðu nefndarinnar þegar hún liggur fyrir. Málsmeðferðin tekur að jafnaði eina viku og er endurgjaldslaus.

  • Þú getur einnig skotið niðurstöðu Tjónanefndar til Úrskurðanefndar. Úrskurðanefnd tekur á málum sem snúa að ágreining um bótaskyldu, þar með talið sök og sakarskiptingu milli neytenda og vátryggingafélags. Við hvaða aðstæður er Vegaaðstoð veitt?

Vegaaðstoð er veitt viðskiptavinum í Grunni ef:

  • Hurðir eða læsingar ökutækisins eru frosnar. 

  • Ökutækið er bensínlaust. 

  • Ökutækið þarf start því rafgeymirinn er straumlaus/dauður. 

  • Skipta þarf um dekk, en þá þarf varadekk að vera til staðar í ökutækinu. 

  • Ökutækið er læst og þú kemst ekki inní hann. 

Athugaðu að þjónustan er veitt innan skilgreindra þjónustusvæða Króks.

Við hvaða aðstæður er Vegaaðstoð Varðar ekki veitt?

Vegaaðstoð er ekki veitt ef:

  • Ef ekki er varadekk í bílnum.

  • Ef bíllinn er fastur í snjó, drullu eða sandi.

  • Ef bíllinn fer ekki í gang af öðrum ástæðum en straumleysi í rafgeymi.

  • Ökutækið er 20 ára eða eldra. Á bæði við um aðstoð á staðnum og flutning.

  • Bíllinn er atvinnutæki, yfir 3,5 tonn að þyngd og/eða lengri en sjö metrar.

Við getum samt sem áður leiðbeint þér með hvaða aðrir möguleikar eru í boði. Fjölmörg fyrirtæki bjóða uppá Vegaðstoð og er Krókur einn af þeim þjónustuaðilum.

Hverjir eiga rétt á Vegaaðstoð?

Viðskiptavinir Varðar sem eru í Grunni eiga rétt á Vegaaðstoð og geta nýtt sér aðstoðina í allt að þrjú skipti á ári. Börn viðskiptavina í Grunni sem hafa sama lögheimili og foreldri eða forráðamaður, geta einnig nýtt sér aðstoðina óháð ökutæki. Til að vera í Grunni þurfa viðskiptavinir að vera með Heimilisvernd 2, 3 eða 4 með innbúskaskó innifalið og tvær aðrar tryggingar.

Hvert hringi ég til að óska eftir Vegaaðstoð?

Ef þú þarft á Vegaaðstoð að halda hrindu í síma 514-1000, við erum til taks allan sólarhringinn.

Hvað ef ekki er hægt að leysa verkefnið á staðnum?

Ef ekki er hægt að leysa málið á staðnum færðu 50% afslátt af flutningi hjá Króki. Bíllinn er fluttur á næsta verkstæði eða heim í hleðslu ef svo ber við. Þú getur séð gjaldskrá Króks hér og pantað flutning hér.

Hvað kostar þjónustan?

Vegaaðstoð Varðar er ókeypis viðskiptavinum okkar í Grunni ef:

  • Hurðir eða læsingar ökutækis eru frosnar.

  • Bílinn er bensínlaus.

  • Bílinn þarf start því rafgeymirinn er dauður.

Til að vera í Grunni þurfa viðskiptavinir að vera með Heimilisvernd 2, 3 eða 4 með innbúskaskó innifalið og tvær aðrar tryggingar.

Hvernig virkar endurgreiðsla hjóna og sambúðarfólks?

Jóhanna og Sverrir eru hjón. Jóhanna greiðir fyrir Heimilisverndina en ekki Sverrir.

Jóhanna er að greiða fyrir x margar tryggingar. Sverrir er jafnframt að greiða fyrir x margar tryggingar.

Jóhanna getur sótt um endurgreiðslu af þeim tryggingum sem hún greiðir fyrir. Sverrir getur sótt um endurgreiðslu af þeim tryggingum sem hann greiðir fyrir.

Það að annar aðilinn sé með Heimilisvernd gerir það að verkum að báðir aðilar geta sótt um endurgreiðslu af tryggingum sínum*.

  • Þú þarft að byrja á því að kanna hvort þú sért með útgáfu af appinu sem styður endurgreiðsluna (iOS 3.48.0 eða hærra og Android 3.35).

  • Ef þú ert með nýjustu útgáfuna af appinu þarftu að skrá þig út úr appinu og aftur inn. Í kjölfarið ætti borðinn að birtast.

  • Ef þú ert ekki með nýjustu útgáfuna af appinu þarftu að uppfæra appið, skrá þig síðan út úr því og aftur inn.

Who can take out critical illness insurance?

Individuals aged 18–59 may apply for critical illness insurance, which remains valid until the age of 70.

How much does critical illness insurance cost?

The premium is based on the insured amount and the age of the insured. The assessment also considers your circumstances, such as family size, financial obligations, and how long you continue to receive salary income during illness. Various health- and lifestyle-related factors may also affect the premium.

How much is the compensation?

You decide the compensation amount of the critical illness insurance. It should reflect your income, debts, and family circumstances. Ideally, the insurance should cover the equivalent of 2–3 years of net salary in addition to employees’ contractual sick pay rights. You may increase the insured amount if you have a child, adopt a child, or purchase residential property, without submitting new health information.

How is compensation paid?

Critical illness insurance compensation is paid as a lump sum and are exempt from income tax. Only one payment is made per benefit category.

When is compensation paid?

Compensation is paid approximately two weeks after all necessary and satisfactory documentation has been received by the insurance company.

What is premium waiver?

Premium waiver is optional additional protection within the critical illness insurance that can be selected when applying.

This means that if you become unable to work by 50% or more, you may apply to have your insurance premiums reduced or waived. The waiver of premiums can last for a maximum of five years and is proportional to the degree of incapacity of work.
