

This information document only specifies the main aspects of the insurance, such as what is included and what is not. It is not an exhaustive list or a personal overview of the insurance that customers choose. The information document has no legal significance and is intended solely to inform customers about the main aspects of the insurance. The insurance summary and detailed information on the applicable contract terms are available on the insurance policy, which can be accessed on Vörður’s My Pages. The terms and conditions of the insurance contain comprehensive information about the insurance coverage and are a part of the agreement between the parties together with the insurance certificate.
Travel insurance provides broad protection while traveling abroad and covers all major benefit areas typically required. It covers expenses due to e.g. accidents, illness, or death while traveling abroad and includes Travel Medical and Trip Interruption Insurance and Luggage Insurance. Please note that travel insurance can be added to Vörður's Home Protection. Travel insurance may also be included in most bank cards, but that protection varies widely and may be subject to conditions. Travel insurance that is part of credit card or home insurance is in most cases only valid for 60-90 days.
Temporary loss of work capacity due to accidents occurring during travel.
Permanent medical disability resulting from accidents occurring during travel.
Death benefits due to accidents occurring during travel.
Compensation for dental injury caused by an accident during travel.
Medical expenses, e.g. hospital stays and the cost of medication.
Additional expenses, e.g. travel and accommodation costs for a close relative if the insured is seriously injured, becomes severely ill, or dies while abroad.
Medical transport, e.g. an extra airline seat required for the insured to return home after illness or injury abroad.
Necessary additional expenses for return travel to Iceland if the insured is forced to interrupt their stay abroad due to the death, serious accident, or sudden and serious illness of specified close relatives.
Reimbursement of vacation costs if the insured is forced to interrupt the trip before it is halfway completed, or has spent at least half of the trip in hospital.
Loss or damage to luggage caused by fire, robbery, transport accidents, or if luggage is lost in transit.
Accidents occurring during competitions or during training sessions in preparation for competitions in any type of sport. This exclusion does not apply to children under the age of 16.
Accidents occurring during boxing, any form of wrestling or martial arts, motor sports, rock climbing, mountain climbing, scuba diving, parachuting, bungee jumping, hang gliding, or gliding.
Accidents occurring during expeditions, big game hunting involving exceptional risk beyond what is considered normal, or journeys classified as research expeditions or similar — unless specifically insured and stated in the insurance certificate.
Accidents caused by the use of a registered motorized vehicle.
Accidents suffered by the insured in physical altercations or during participation in criminal acts.
Accidents directly or indirectly caused by visual impairment, hearing loss, paralysis, disability, epilepsy, seizures, stroke, diabetes, or other serious illnesses and/or symptoms.
Conditions such as herniated discs, sciatica, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or other forms of arthritis.
Death benefits if illness, debility, or pre-existing medical conditions contributed to the cause of death.
Accidents occurring during competitions or training sessions in preparation for competitions in any type of sport.
Accidents occurring during mountain climbing, rock climbing, boxing, wrestling, motor vehicle and motorcycle sports, hang gliding, parachuting, scuba diving, or other similar activities.
Accidents occurring during gliding, aerobatics, participation in expeditions, big game hunting, or journeys that may be classified as exploration expeditions.
Accidents suffered by the insured in physical altercations, during participation in a criminal act, or while under the influence of narcotics or alcohol—unless it is proven that the condition had no connection to the accident.
Accidents resulting from tanning, medical treatment, surgery, or the use of medication, unless the treatment was prescribed due to a covered accident.
Accidents caused by the use of recreational drugs or the use of medication, unless the medication was prescribed as treatment for a covered accident. Accidents due to the use of painkillers or sleeping pills are always excluded.
Illnesses related to childbirth, abortions, or occurring in the ninth month of pregnancy.
Illness or accidents resulting from alcohol, substance, or drug abuse.
Chronic illnesses resulting from an accident for which the insured received medical treatment within 12 months prior to the start of the trip.
Continued treatment abroad if the insured refuses to return home despite medical advice to do so.
Medical treatment abroad lasting longer than three months.
Medication without a prescription, prosthetics and dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, etc.
Cash, travel tickets, traveler’s checks, bonds, or other securities.
Fragile items.
Scratches, dents, pressure marks, or abrasions that do not affect the usability of the items.
Damage to suitcases or luggage.
Loss or damage due to normal wear and tear, defects, or damage to items that tear or break during use.
Theft of items from unlocked accommodation or storage areas, or theft of items that are left behind, forgotten, or lost in public places.
The insured is required to comply with Vörður’s safety precautions.
The insured must take good care of his luggage and take the necessary measures, as far as possible, to prevent damage.
The insurance is valid for travel abroad for general tourists and students. If the insured is engaged in any employment abroad, this can be included in the insurance by endorsement on the insurance policy and payment of an additional premium. Provide all necessary information, whether at renewal, when making changes to the insurance, or when reporting a claim.
If an accident occurs, the injured person should seek medical attention immediately and undergo necessary medical procedures and follow the doctor's instructions.
If luggage is damaged or lost during a flight or while the luggage is in the custody of an airline, the injured party is obliged to report the damage/loss immediately upon landing, or within 7 days for processing by the airline on a P.I.R. report.
Report any claim as soon as possible and no later than one year from the date of the incident.
Insurance premiums must be paid before the insurance takes effect. Payment can be made by credit card or bank transfer.
The insurance takes effect upon acceptance of the offer and issuance of the policy. The travel insurance is valid for the period specified in the certificate. It is a short-term insurance policy and does not renew automatically unless otherwise specifically agreed.
The insurance can be terminated at any time during the insurance period.
