Greenhouse Operations Insurance

What kind of insurance is Greenhouse Operations Insurance?

Greenhouse operations insurance is intended for those engaged in traditional greenhouse operations activities. The insurance covers cultivated produce in the greenhouse but does not extend to other movable property or real estate.

What Is Covered?

Loss or damage caused by a fire, lighting or explosions.

Loss or damage caused by water, steam and oil that suddenly and unexpectedly flows from the plumbing system in the greenhouse and originates from within the walls of the building.

Loss or damage caused by burglary.

Loss or damage to crops caused by storms.

Loss or damage caused by sudden heavy snow that has overburdened the roof or walls of the greenhouse.

Loss or damage to crops caused by changes in temperature, which is caused by failure of technical equipment, electrical equipment, heating systems and water pipes.

What Is Not Covered?

Damage resulting from work with explosives during construction.

Loss or damage from water from external sources, such as groundwater, precipitation, flooding or damage due to water from gutters or drainage pipes connected to these.

Loss or damage due to water that is pushed upwards from sewage or drainage pipes, or if sewage pipes suddenly cannot transport all the water channelled to them, with the exception, however, of pipes that become clogged or burst indoors.

Loss or damage which occurs as a result of unlawful entry or attempted unlawful entry by the insured’s employees or when employees are a participant (complicit) in such an unlawful entry.

Loss or damage attributable to construction defects.

Are there any restrictions or precautionary rules?

The insured must ensure that items are not exposed to risk from fire or heat.

The insured is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and installations at the insured location comply with the requirements of applicable laws and regulations.

The insured must ensure that the water supply is shut off in unheated buildings when there is a risk of frost.

The insured must ensure that drains are in proper condition by keeping them clear and preventing the accumulation of surface water.

The insured must ensure that greenhouses are always locked when left unattended.

The insured must ensure that the greenhouse fully complies with the requirements of applicable laws and regulations.

Where is the insurance valid?

The insurance is valid at the location specified in the insurance policy or renewal receipt.

What are the insured's obligations?

To provide all necessary information, whether at renewal or when making changes to the insurance, about themselves or the insured vehicle.

Vörður is authorized to inspect the insured property and its equipment whenever they request.

Report any damage at the earliest opportunity and no later than one year from the date of the incident.

When and how is the insurance paid for?

The insurance premium must be paid on the due date. Vörður sends payment claims monthly to online banking services, or annually if the policyholder prefers to pay the premium in a single installment. It is possible to change the payment method via Vörður's online service, “My Pages.” There, policyholders can also choose to pay premiums using a credit card.

When does insurance coverage begin and how does it end?

Insurance contracts generally apply for 12 months from acceptance of the offer and issuance of the policy, with premiums based on an annual premium. If the insurance is not cancelled during this period, it is automatically renewed.

How is the insurance terminated?

The insurance may be cancelled at any time during the insurance period. Cancellation must be made by written notice to Vörður or by another verifiable means.
