This information document only specifies the main aspects of the insurance, such as what is included and what is not. It is not an exhaustive list or a personal overview of the insurance that customers choose. The information document has no legal significance and is intended solely to inform customers about the main aspects of the insurance. The insurance summary and detailed information on the applicable contract terms are available on the insurance policy, which can be accessed on Vörður’s My Pages. The terms and conditions of the insurance contain comprehensive information about the insurance coverage and are a part of the agreement between the parties together with the insurance certificate.
Comprehensive insurance for travel trailers covers damage to the insured trailer, its standard accessories, and movable personal property that is usually kept in the trailer. Coverage applies in the event of sudden and unexpected external incidents. The term travel trailer includes trailer tents, camping trailers, caravans, and pick-up truck campers. Awnings and canopies can also be insured, provided they are listed on the insurance certificate with an assigned value.
Damage to the insured trailer due to sudden and unexpected external events, unless specifically excluded or limited in the terms and conditions.
Damage caused by fire or explosion resulting from fire (note: this does not include situations where the fire does not break free and spread).
Theft, attempted theft, and vandalism.
Weather-related damage, including when the trailer is blown over or doors are ripped open by wind.
Damage caused by mudslides, flooding, landslides, avalanches, strikes, or riots.
Damage caused by any type of pets or pests.
Damage resulting from wind-blown sand, gravel, ash, pumice, or other loose earth materials.
Damage from stone chips thrown up from the road or other vehicles, except when such impact causes rupture to the hard shell of the trailer, broken windows, or damage to lighting equipment.
Scratches or dents to the undercarriage, tires, or rims that do not impair usability — even if the manufacturer’s warranty becomes void as a result.
Theft of individual items from the trailer.
Damage caused by shaking or vibration during driving.
Undercarriage damage caused by driving on gravel roads, highland routes, trails, or off-road, as well as driving through unbridged rivers, lakes, or streams.
Damage resulting from driving in areas or on roads where public authorities have issued warnings against driving.
The travel trailer must be securely locked when left unattended, and all windows or sunroofs must be closed.
The trailer must not be towed when the sustained wind speed has reached 20 m/s (meters per second).
Between October 1st and May 1st, the trailer must be properly sheltered from the wind and securely anchored if it is stored outdoors.
After a storm, the insured must inspect the trailer as soon as possible to check for any damage.
The insured is responsible for ensuring that the safety equipment of both the trailer and the towing vehicle is in good working order and appropriate for the conditions.
Following an insurable event, the insured must take appropriate measures to minimize further damage, such as moving the trailer for professional inspection or relocating it to a safe location.
The insurance is valid in Iceland. It is also valid in EEA member states, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland for up to 90 days from the travel trailer’s departure from Iceland. The insurance also covers the travel trailer during transport between countries by first-class shipping vessel, provided the policy is an annual insurance contract.
If the travel trailer is used for commercial purposes — such as rental, food service, or similar activities — this increased risk must be reported to the insurance company without delay.
In the event of damage, the policyholder is required to notify Vörður immediately. If the incident involves unlawful activity, it must also be reported to the police.
The insurance premium must be paid on the due date. Upon renewal, the annual premium is adjusted in accordance with changes in the index from the base index of the agreement. Vörður sends payment claims monthly to online banking services, or annually if the policyholder prefers to pay the premium in a single installment. It is possible to change the payment method via Vörður's online service, “My Pages.” There, policyholders can also choose to pay premiums using a credit card.
Insurance contracts generally remain valid for 12 months from the date the offer is accepted and the insurance is issued. Premiums are based on the annual rate. If the policy is not terminated during that period, it is automatically renewed.
The insurance can be terminated at any time during the insurance period.
