How do I apply?

Below is an electronic form for emergency assistance due to domestic violence. On the form, we will ask you to give us a few pieces of information, such as which professional you have received assistance from regarding confirmation and which payment method is suitable for you. The coverage covers incidents that have occurred within the last 12 months.

The fact that you have completed this form will not appear anywhere on your insurance statement or on My Pages. 

Once you have completed the form, we will contact the specified professional and then initiate the payment process. We will do our best to process your request as quickly as possible.

  • Under what insurance is emergency assistance due to domestic violence?
    • The coverage is covered by Vörður's home insurance. The aim of the new coverage is to provide emergency assistance, in the form of financial compensation, for victims of violence in intimate relationships and further enable them to change their circumstances.    

    • The coverage covers incidents that have occurred within the last 12 months. 

    • The coverage is now part of all of Vörður's home insurance policies, applies to all genders, and comes at no additional cost.  

    • The coverage is not optional but is always included in the insurance. 

    How do I apply?

    • You can choose to fill out the form with or without electronic ID. 

    • The form is also available in English. You can also access the form in English by clicking here

    • After the request has been submitted to Vördur, specially trained staff will receive it and contact the professional you specify, such as The Women’s Shelter or Bjarkarhlíð. 

    • The professional provides confirmation that the individual is working to overcome domestic violence with their help. 

    • Once confirmation has been received from the professional, we will pay the compensation. 

    How do I get paid from the insurance?
    • Each individual can receive a one-time payment from the insurance. 

    • The coverage covers incidents that have occurred within the last 12 months.

    • The compensation will come in up to three payments. 

    • You can request to receive the compensation amount in the form of a gift card or to have it paid into a bank account. 

    • Please note that if you choose to receive payment into a bank account, it is important to make sure that you are the only person who has access to the account provided. If you are unsure or do not have a bank account, it may be safer for you to choose to pick up a gift card as it is not registered to your name. 

    Do I need to file a complaint or police report to apply for compensation?
    • No, there is no requirement to report or file a complaint with the police. 

    • There is also no requirement for visible physical injury. 

    • We only need to receive confirmation from a professional that the person is working to overcome domestic violence with their help. 

    What conditions must be met to be able to claim compensation?
    • The coverage covers incidents that have occurred within the last 12 months.

    • The person must have sought the services of a professional a certain number of times in the last 12 months. 

    • Professional refers to parties who specialise in serving victims of violence in intimate relationships. For example: 

      • The Women’s Shelter 

      • Landspítali Hospital’s Domestic Violence Team 

      • Centres for victims of violence such as Bjarkarhlíð 

    • Individuals who have sought services at the Women's Shelter must have had at least 5 interviews or stayed at the Women's Shelter in the past 12 months. 

    • Individuals who have sought Bjarkarhlíð's services must have had a minimum of 5 interviews, 3 of which at Bjarkarhlíð and 2 in ongoing victim services with an appropriate professional, within the last 12 months after Bjarkarhlíð's referral. 

    I don’t have electronic identification. How do I apply? 
    • You can complete the application even if you do not have access to electronic identification.

    Another party is registered with Home Protection. Can I still receive payments from the insurance?
    • Anyone who falls under Home Protection at Vörður can apply. 

    • Home Protection covers those who have the same legal domicile as the policyholder and who maintain a household together. 

    How do I purchase the insurance?
    • The insurance is part of Vörður's home insurance and is included in all current home insurance policies. 

    • The coverage is not optional but is always included in the insurance. 

    What is domestic violence?
    • Violence in intimate relationships is violence that an individual experiences at the hands of someone close to them, related or connected to them, such as a spouse, child, parent, stepfather, sibling, or guardian. 

  • What does the insurance cover? 
    • The insurance covers incidental expenses if the insured person needs to change their circumstances due to violence in an intimate relationship. 

    • Examples of expenses include food, transportation, clothing, and hygiene products. 

    • The coverage covers incidents that have occurred within the last 12 months.

    What documentation will I need to submit?

    We will then contact the specified professional to obtain confirmation. 

    There is no requirement to report or file a complaint with the police.

    • Once confirmation has been received from the professional, we will pay the compensation. 

    Will the policyholder see that I have applied for this compensation?
    • To ensure the safety of applicants, no one receives a notification when this insurance coverage is applied for and it does not appear on the insurance statement. 

    • To apply, you do not go through My Pages, but rather fill out a form that can be found at the top of the page. This way, we ensure that the policyholder does not see that the coverage has been applied for. 

    • Notification will not affect price, transaction history, or Arion refunds. 

    Can men or other genders apply for this coverage?
    • The coverage is for all genders. 

    • Everyone who has Home Protection has this coverage and can therefore apply for the insurance. Compensation is claimed from the insurance by filling out the form that can be found at the top of the page.
