Response to Damage

It is very important to react correctly when accidents happen, so it is good to keep the following in mind.

All loss or damage can easily be reported here on our website. You can also contact Vörður's claims department at 514-1000 every weekday from 09:00-16:00.  In case of emergency, you can contact the Vörður emergency service outside office hours at 514-1099.

Loss or damage due to storms

  • Property

    • Flood and storm insurance is included in the homeowner's insurance for companies and individuals and in summer house insurance.

    • If the wind speed exceeds 28.5 m/s and damage occurs to the property, the damage will be compensated from the relevant insurance. This applies, for example, to damage caused by loose objects that break windows or cause other damage to property. The same applies if there is general property damage in the area in question.

  • Vehicles

    • Comprehensive insurance compensates damage that occurs to a vehicle that is parked and is damaged if loose objects blow on it, or for example, if a tree breaks and falls on it.

    • Condition that wind strength exceeds 28.5 m/s.

The Natural Catastrophe Insurance of Iceland (NTÍ) insures against sea floods, floods, landslides, avalanches, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Compulsory insurance is on all properties and fire-insured contents and movable property. For the given reason, it should be noted that NTÍ does not insure against wind damage. Those who have suffered loss or damage are advised to contact their insurance companies to check their status.
